Here's What You'll Get! The Parent & Family Eductor's Resource Library is now provided in a convenient downloadable, searchable PDF format. When you enroll, you will receive a user name and password so you can easily access and download your materaisl at home or work! Each of the six Collections in the Library (originally published from 2001-2006). Sections include: Trends & Events, Research
& Reviews, Methods & Materials, Marketing & Outreach, and the Couple's
Connection, Focus Issues (Presentaion guides/lesson plans on Parenting/Child Development,
Youth Development, Marriage & Family Development, Basic Parenting) and an
optional section for those who work in Christian education settings, Family Ministry
Connection (optional). Many of the handouts have been translated into Spanish
and are FREE when you purchase the Library! An additional category, People & Programs, makes an important addition to your professional development. Each FIS Online Collection features six interviews with nationally recognized expert in the field. Interview transcripts with accompanying ready-to-use handouts will prepare you to present the topic yourself quickly and easily. 1997 Phoenix Award from the National Parents' Day Coalition for excellence in developing and implementing a program or overall agenda that creates awareness about the need for responsible parenting and parental involvement in the child's development. The Award Committee of the National Parents' Day Coalition stated, Family Information Services exemplifies professionalism in the field of study, while creating public awareness about the need for responsible parenthood. This unique professional development program offers practitioners a large array of resources for their work with families. Other organizations have recognized Dr. Joan Comeau for her work in providing Family Information Services to the Parent and Family Education community: As part of their centennial celebration (1900-2000), Joan was recognized by the University of Minnesota's College of Human Ecology as one of the Century's 100 Outstanding Friends & Alumni whose life and work illuminates the breadth, diversity, and spirit of the College of Human Ecology. In 2001, Joan was named Parent Educator of the Year by the Texas-based Practical Parent Education Program, for her leadership in providing resources and continuing education to parent educators across the country. In 2005 she was recognized by the National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministers "in acknowledgment of significant contributions to family life ministry and she received the Ruth Hathaway Jewson Award given by the Minnesota Council on Family Relations for her contributions to the family field. In November, 2006 she received the Arcus Award for Life Long Achievement in Family Life Education from the National Council on Family Relations in recognition of her work as founder, director and editor of Family Information Services.
