Help for Kids: Understanding
Your Feelings Dear parents, teachers, and others who care about children and families:We are pleased to offer you free online access to the workbook: Help for Kids: Understanding Your Feelings About Terrorism, War and Peace researched and written by Carole Gesme. This workbook is being published in the 2003
Family Information Service's
"practitioner's journal" for professionals who work with, or teach about,
parenting, child development and family relationships. Making this timely resource available to you is a joint effort of I Wanna Be Me and Family Information Services. We are asking for the information below because we would like to do a very brief follow up with you via email in a few weeks to gather information about how the workbook is being used. Everyone is telling us to "talk with our children about their feelings." But Carole found in her research for her master's thesis, that children not only don't know how to recognize or talk about their feelings, they also don't know what to do about their feelings. This workbook offers a "kid-friendly" way for parents, teachers, youth leaders, etc. to teach children about feelings and then to talk specifically with them about terrorism, war and peace. We hope it will be helpful to you during these difficult and often scary times. Carole
